Geaux Nuts’ sugar-coated pecans, impossible to stop eating, may smack of New Orleans tradition in the love of the nut, but they’re definitely their own treat, made with a unique family recipe. Allison Kushnick, a New Orleans native and longtime Scarsdale resident, makes the party favorites with her mother, Barbara Gendler, who created the recipe and has baked them for 30 years. She had savored a similar snack at a party. “When I tried them, I absolutely loved them,” Gendler said. Indeed, she was so enamored of them, whipped some up, “with my own little touch,” and has been making them ever since. The melt-in-your-mouth treats are lighter than traditional pralines and sure to be a hit at parties, cookouts and small gatherings. Kushnick also sells variations covered in white or dark chocolate, and one that uses a medley of pretzels, cereal and pecans.
